Description
Sober yet confident, this Italian sideboard from the 1960s offers a strong presence through its refined lines and deep-toned rosewood veneer. Its form is balanced, allowing the natural beauty of the materials to guide the eye.
Design
The piece is most likely designed in the style of the Italian firm Stildomus, which was active during the post-war design boom. Founded by Aldo Bartolomeo, Stildomus played a role in defining modern Italian interiors by producing furniture that combined craftsmanship with architectural clarity. This credenza is a fine example of that ethos.
Constructed from solid wood and clad in highly figured rosewood veneer, the sideboard features four drawers across the top and four doors below. The grain of the rosewood is deliberately aligned, forming a continuous pattern that flows across the front. Each drawer is fitted with inset metal pulls, patinated over time, that subtly echo the utilitarian elegance typical of Italian modernist design. Below, paired cabinet doors open to reveal ample storage. The credenza is supported by recessed legs, giving it a slightly elevated and grounded stance.
An excellent piece for use in a dining room, office, or entryway, it pairs strong material presence with understated functionality.
Condition
This sideboard is in very good vintage condition with minor signs of use. The veneer has been well preserved, and the drawers and doors function smoothly. -
