Description
A distinctive mid-century design, this marble top coffee table was created by Estelle and Erwine Laverne for Laverne International in the 1950s. The designers were known for their refined aesthetics and innovative approach to furniture, seamlessly blending materials for a timeless appeal. This table embodies their vision, bringing together clean lines and quality craftsmanship in a way that remains relevant decades later.
Design
The round tabletop is crafted from solid Carrara marble, measuring 3 cm thick with a distinctive bullnose edge. The surface showcases beautiful natural veining in shades of grey against a white background, making each piece unique. Chrome-plated steel legs provide sturdy support, secured to a steel sub-frame beneath the stone. The legs are tubular, giving the design a light yet solid presence. A notable detail is the circular chrome discs embedded in the marble, capping each leg with a refined industrial touch. The weight of the marble, combined with the sleek lines of the base, creates a striking contrast between strength and elegance.
This table is a prime example of mid-century craftsmanship, offering versatility across different interiors. It pairs effortlessly with both modern and vintage pieces, standing out as a focal point in any space. The combination of natural stone and polished metal gives it a timeless aesthetic that continues to resonate.
Condition
The marble top has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring its smooth finish. Minor oxidation is visible around the metal discs, adding character without compromising the integrity of the piece. The chrome legs remain bright and well-preserved. -
