Description
An exceptionally rare and refined three-drawer vanity desk in cherry wood, attributed to Guglielmo Pecorini, accompanied by its original folding Venini Murano glass mirror (model no. 21) and a matched upholstered chair. This rare and sophisticated ensemble exemplifies Italian modernist design at its finest.
The desk displays extraordinary craftsmanship and sculptural presence, defined by its rich cherry wood grain, softly indented central desktop, and elegant tapering legs with a subtle outward splay. The architectural drawer fronts project proudly from the façade, creating dramatic depth and shadow lines that transform functional storage into a defining visual feature. Each drawer is gently curved and fitted with refined modernist pulls, while faux proud drawer fronts on the sides further enhance the desk’s rhythmic architectural composition and decorative appeal.
The attached folding tabletop mirror is a rare and exceptional Venini design, executed in clear hand-blown Murano glass using the Treccia glassmaking technique. The resulting braided, twisted form is accented with brass cap details and features a tri-fold hinged construction that allows the panels to pivot for versatile viewing angles. The reverse is impressed “VENINI / MURANO.”
The accompanying chair echoes the desk’s sculptural language, featuring a curved back that mirrors the desk’s indented façade. It stands on tapering straight front legs with brass sabots and gently splayed curved back legs. The chair has been fully restored and newly upholstered in luxurious Holland & Sherry Brunswick Snow (ivory) bouclé.
