Description
Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo (ABV) rare Model 6521 round dining or center table in walnut, reverse-painted glass and brass, Italy, 1945. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Archivio Osvaldo Borsani.
An exceptional example of Borsani’s highly refined furniture of the 1940s, the table combines a rich walnut structure with a striking circular top inset with deep burgundy reverse-painted glass. The glass is surrounded by an elegantly molded walnut border, creating a sophisticated contrast between the saturated color of the top and the warm tones and grain of the wood. The warm reddish-brown walnut, rich burgundy glass and softly patinated brass create a sophisticated and understated palette.
The table is supported by four dramatically curved walnut legs that descend from a central pedestal and sweep outward in a graceful, almost architectural composition. Each broad, sculpted leg terminates in a gently upturned foot accented by a fitted brass sabot, adding a subtle decorative refinement to the otherwise fluid and organic form.
A rare and highly collectible documented design from Borsani’s important pre-Tecno period, when furniture was produced through the family firm Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, Model 6521 exemplifies the exceptional craftsmanship and refined detailing characteristic of his work during the 1940s. During this period, Borsani was increasingly moving beyond the traditions of the family cabinetmaking atelier toward a more progressive and distinctly modern design vocabulary. This table beautifully embodies that transition, reconciling traditional Italian craftsmanship with an increasingly modern and sculptural approach to form.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Archivio Osvaldo Borsani, Varedo, Italy. -
