Description
A sculptural balance of precision and functionality, this Italian coffee table from the 1960s is a confident statement of form and craftsmanship.
Design
Crafted from rosewood with a bold graphic grain, the piece is defined by a sharply angular surface composed of four hinged triangular panels. These pivot open to reveal an interior of carefully divided storage compartments; cleverly concealed beneath the symmetrical top. At rest, the table presents as a monolithic square with a refined architectural logic. Once opened, it transforms into a dynamic object, offering a layered sense of interaction and utility. This combination of pure form and practical design places the piece firmly within the rationalist tradition of post-war Italian furniture, where sculptural language met domestic use.
The rosewood veneer is deep in tone with vivid, directional patterning that enhances the geometric rhythm. Edges are subtly bevelled, lending the object a floating quality despite its visual weight. Likely produced in Northern Italy, the table reflects the influence of designers such as Gianfranco Frattini and Osvaldo Borsani, known for their emphasis on modularity and elegant problem-solving through design.
Condition
This piece has been fully restored in our workshop. Surfaces are clean, joints solid, and the mechanical elements work smoothly. In very good condition. -
