Swedish Rococo Black-Painted Side Table, Mid-18th Century

Offered by: Jacqueline Adams Antiques

Description
A mid-18th century Swedish Rococo side table in black paint, a rare survivor from the height of the Rococo period in Sweden. The table displays the sinuous shaping and gently curved legs that define the style, rendered with the restraint typical of Swedish workshops rather than the exuberance of their continental counterparts. The dark painted surface has mellowed with age, showing the depth and soft sheen that only original centuries-old finishes acquire. It is a versatile scale, serving as a side table, lamp table, or occasional table. Period Rococo tables in early paint are increasingly scarce, and this example offers both authenticity and quiet decorative presence. Wear is consistent with age and use.
