Description
Created in the 1980s, this extraordinary Bulgari "Trombino" ring is set with a cushion-cut Colombian emerald weighing 7.52 carats, and is mounted in 18K gold. The cushion-cut emerald is flanked by graduating, tapered diamond baguettes, and the ring's bombé shoulders and pierced gallery are pavé-set with round brilliant-cut diamonds, with an approximate total diamond weight of 4.00 carats. A beloved and original Bulgari design inspired by the domed forms of Rome's classical and Renaissance architecture, this gorgeous, high-impact ring set with a specimen emerald illustrates why the firm has long been a favorite of artists and celebrities alike.

Daniela Mascetti and Amanda Triossi's history of Bulgari records that the Trombino was first created in the early 1930s. At the time, Bulgari designers had their finger on the pulse of artistic developments in Paris. They responded to the landmark 1929 exhibition at the Palais Galliera, which marked the beginning of the Art Moderne period in jewelry design, by creating this architecturally-inspired, streamlined vision of a modernist ring. The ring's characteristics came to define Bulgari's unmistakable aesthetic, referencing the Classical-period Roman innovation of the freestanding dome, while the interior echoes that architectural framework in convex form, both features giving the jewel that unique sense of perfectly-proportioned volume for which the firm is so famous. -
