The accomplished Jessie Willcox Smith studied under Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and later, with illustrators Elizabeth Shippen Green and Violet Oakley, she also attended illustrator Howard Pyle's school in Wilmington, Delaware.
