Philippe Barbier

French
Philippe Barbier was a French designer and lighting specialist active during the 1960s and 1970s, renowned for his elegant and sculptural lighting designs. Based in Paris, Barbier founded Maison Barbier, where he created a distinctive range of table and floor lamps that combined polished metals such as nickel-plated steel with travertine or stone bases. His designs became staples of mid-century French interior style, often featured in film sets and high-end decor. In addition to lighting, Barbier designed a variety of decorative objects and furniture, including candle holders and coffee tables, known for their bold forms and refined material finishes. Maison Barbier also played a role in the early promotion of the iconic Tam-Tam stool by Henry Massonnet, underscoring Barbier’s influence on the design culture of postwar Paris.
