Opening on February 8th, 2019, the exhibition features a range of work — imaginative furniture, lighting, mirrors and objects d’arte — exploring the progression of Hubert Le Gall’s career over the past 25 years. The three distinct universes that have defined Le Gall’s career: a poetic animal world, a playful fantastic world and an unusual abstract world are represented through his works in bronze, wood, marble, and textiles, drawing a portrait of the artist’s vision. Highlights of the show include the iconic Pot de Fleurs armchair, L’Eternel Printemps cabinet, and the Adam armchair, each illustrating the balance between figuration and poetry as a signature of the artist’s work.  


Fantasy, novelty and elegance are Hubert Le Gall’s trademarks. A number of his pieces are inspired by the work of other artists: his Marguepretty side table was inspired, he says, by Warhol’s Flowers, and his Pot de Fleurs armchairs by Jean-Pierre Raynaud’s “Le Pot.” Le Gall’s creations are produced with rigorous execution and exquisite finishes in very small limited editions; he views his work as more akin to sculpture than design, and himself as more artist than designer. The rarity of his work also ensures that the pieces hold their value, and those that come up for auction are ardently pursued. 


The exhibition coincides with the launch of his new book, Fabula, chronicling Le Gall’s friendship and collaboration with one of his most devoted collectors, Pamela Mullin, with photographs of his creations set in her spectacular seventeenth-century manor home in Normandy.
