J.C. Mahey lacquered and brass game table 1970s
-
Description
A rare game table by J.C. Mahey, it has a double-sided surface (green felt and a brass–lacquer checkerboard) which removes to reveal a backgammon playing surface. With its sophisticated black lacquer and shiny brass accents, the table is typical of such lacquer–metal work by the designer, and, like much of his work, has a glamorous mood. The table’s size makes it workable as a large side table, vase table, or, if you’d like, a game table. As a fixture in a contemporary space, it would add vintage appeal—a trendy repurposing of a midcentury piece—and a chic elegance. Or, its timeless design means that it would work just as well in a vintage space. Highly decorative and in very good vintage condition, this game table is a unique find.
