Description
This toleware tray depicts a rare Grand Tour scene. Two tourists in period attire take in the sites among the ruins of the Forum in Rome, with the Seven Hills of Rome in the distance. The Pontypool, Welsh tin tray is hand-stenciled and hand-painted. It rests on a new, high-quality custom-made painted stand. The tray can be easily removed from the stand with thumb-holes in the base, so that the tray can be hung on a wall, or actually used as a tray, or - as shown here - as a table where one can hide magazines and papers underneath the tray when company arrives. The tray has been preserved and protected with beeswax and carnauba wax polish.
This is a perfect piece for anyone who collects Grand Tour Souvenirs, or who decorates with Classical elements. -
