Description
This two-piece Harvey Probber Nuclear Sert sectional sofa is one of his earliest designs and was fabricated in the early 1950s.
A beautiful two-piece sectional sofa designed by Harvey Probber in the 1960s. This design was part of his “Nuclear Sert” series which was influenced by the understated modern lines used by Spanish-born Architect Jose Luis Sert. The sofa is in overall good structural condition. It was custom ordered for a prominent NY estate in the 1950s along with other prominent pieces by Philip & Kelvin Laverne and Paavo Tynell etc. We also have the complementary two-piece Harvey Probber Nuclear coffee table that is different than the one shown in the images.
The Nuclear series of sofas created by Probber were some of the most comfortable seating ever produced in this time period. 8-way hand-tied springs were used over webbing with foam rubber cushions and solid hardwood frames. They retain the straight lines of modern design that we love so much but are comfortable enough to sleep on and built with heirloom quality construction and will last many lifetimes if properly cared for.
Good Condition. Needs Reupholstery. -
