Description
Paul Cadmus Teddo 1985
$3,475.00
This refined work on paper, entitled "Teddo" was produced by the celebrated American artist Paul Cadmus (1901-1999) in 1985. It features a nude male figure with tightly cropped hair sitting on a floor with his feet pressed against the wall in front of him and his hands on the floor. Rendered in a style all Cadmus' own- recalling both mannerism and neue sachlichkeit- the work highlights the well defined musculature of the subject through loose, expressionistic markings. With its classical figurative form and monochromatic palate, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classical to contemporary. It comes presented in a custom white gilt gallery frame and is in excellent condition. An example of this print, from a small edition of 200, is also in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. The work is signed in the lower right, and titled and numbered "191/200" in the lower left. Excellent condition.
Cadmus, considered to be a master draftsman, was influenced in the Italian Renaissance artists, particularly Signorelli and Mantegna, the so-called "masters of muscle", the American painter Reginald Marsh among others. His work is part of the many private and institutional collections around the world including the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Metropolitan Museum in New York City.
