Description
Pair of 20th century two-tiered brass étagères with Japanese paintings
Continental, c. 1950
Height 58cm, width 58cm, depth 41cm
This exquisite pair of étagères beautifully merges Eastern and Western craftsmanship, offering a refined example of 20th century design. Their slender brass frames lend an air of delicacy, while the practical addition of castors allows for easy repositioning.
Each two-tier étagère features a striking Japanese painting set into the top surface, framed with painted and gilded borders, and safeguarded beneath a protective glass panel. Below, a secondary shelf echoes the decorative detailing of the upper tier, seamlessly uniting function and artistry.
The paintings, meticulously rendered in ink, colour, and gold, capture vibrant scenes of figures in traditional attire, celebrating the harmony between land and sea. One composition also features an architectural element, further emphasizing the masterful skill of the Japanese artists.
With their timeless appeal and sophisticated craftsmanship, this elegant pair of étagères serves as a stunning addition to both contemporary and traditional interiors. -
