Description
This exceptionally rare armchair with matching footrest was designed by Gösta Berg and Stenerik Eriksson in the late 1960s. The model was produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark as number 9601 and is better known as the Måsen (Seagull) chair. It was manufactured for a short period only, between 1968 and 1973, and is considered one of the iconic chairs of late 1960s Danish design.
The very comfortable and visually striking design is characterized by its organically shaped, sculptural upholstered body with distinctive, generously sized armrests inspired by a seagull's wing. The curved lines of the seat and backrest complete the elegant silhouette. The placement of the head cushion is adjustable. The chair rests on a five-legged, rotating base in brushed steel. The matching footrest echoes the chair's curves and features a four-legged base. Both pieces are upholstered in soft black leather.
The chair is in good, completely original condition. The leather shows signs of wear consistent with its age and previous use, including one seam with slightly loose piping and minor marks. The metal frame has developed a natural patina, also in keeping with its age and use. -
