French 18th Century Gilt & Painted Trumeau Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 35 ¼” H x 23 ⅞” W x 1 ¼” D
A magnificent 18th century French giltwood trumeau mirror in the style of Louis XVI, the thick rococo carvings around the (French gray) painted frame appear even more theatrical under a layer of gold. At the top of the piece is a near spherical cartouche, the fronton appearing as a garden urn enclosed by two scrolls. This theme of curling waves and acanthus leaves accentuates the top corners of the frame rounding out any geometry, underscoring the romantic qualities of this antique mirror down to the shell ornament at the base. Mirror plate is likely a more recent replacement: glass is mostly clear with few spots of foxing and crystals are absent. Strung with picture wire, ready to hang in your interior.
