French 18th Century Bridal Gilt Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 33 ⅝” H x 23 ⅛” W x 2 ¼” D
A wonderful 18th century French gold giltwood mirror, likely made as a wedding gift, the square frame is dense with texture and pattern of grape vines to brighten up any room. Unusual for this genre of mirrors, the expected pedimented at the top has been curiously omitted, telling its symbolic narrative of abundance through delicate tendrils and grape clusters that wrap around the French gray painted background. The foliate elements are bookended at the lower corners with rosettes which transition into the tall feet elevating and protecting the frame. Beaded molding on the interior surrounds the original mirror plate that shows a line of foxing toward the middle among other spots of textural oxidation. Strung with wire on the back, ready to hang in your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more and the current condition. -
