Description
A beautiful and refined sculptural hand-blown art glass vase, titled Saippuakupla “Soap Bubble”, from the 1960s. It was designed by Finnish designer and glass artist Kaj Franck (1911–1989) and executed by Nuutajärvi Notsjö in Finland. This is model KF113, originally designed in 1951 and produced only between 1951 and 1961. It was among the works exhibited in the renowned "Design in Scandinavia" exhibition, which toured North America in the 1950s. The vase is made of free-blown glass in a dark to olive green hue and has a subtly distorted, flattened egg-shaped form with a circular opening at the top. Signed on the base: K. Franck, Nuutajärvi Notsjö -58. It is in very good condition with only minimal signs of age. Kaj Franck was a leading figure in Scandinavian design. His work is known for its warm, light, and clear aesthetic — a lasting testament to his influence on 20th-century modernism.
