Monumental Stainless-Steel Uplighters by Targetti, Italy, 1970s
-
Description
These exceptionally rare cylindrical floor lamps were custom-made in the 1970s by the renowned Italian lighting manufacturer Targetti for an exclusive private club in Bologna. Only six examples were ever produced, making them true collector’s items within the world of Italian modernist design. Each lamp features a bold, polished stainless-steel cylinder that brings monumental presence to any architectural interior. Designed as uplighters, they cast a soft atmospheric glow that enhances spatial drama and verticality. Their minimalist construction, original coiled cords, and refined detailing reflect both the era’s technical innovation and Italy’s enduring dedication to craftsmanship.
Targetti’s story began in 1928 in Florence, where a small workshop selling lamps and electrical goods evolved into one of Italy’s most respected lighting brands. By 1937, artisans there were shaping lighting with the same reverence Renaissance craftsmen once brought to marble. In 1959, the company expanded into a modern industrial complex, entering a new era rooted in both beauty and technical progress. -
