ALBERT MELVILLE GRAVES
American, 1862-1950
"Camel with Alfalfa at Souq al Jum'aa - Tripoli"
Oil on panel | signed lower right "A M GRAVES" | reverse of panel titled, signed by artist and illegibly stamped
12" H x 13 3/4" W x 1 7/16" D [frame]
5 7/16" H x 7 1/16" W [panel]
A bright and cheery depiction of the Souq al Jum'aa in Tripoli, it features camels loaded down with goods and alfalfa at the forefront while figures look on. Housed in a fabulous giltwood frame.
Condition: Hairline crack in the panel horizontally roughly down the center. A lovely modern frame. Under ultraviolet examination, touch up to the camel's neck, possible flaring in the foliage overhead, some rubbing to the edges where the frame abrades. Minor wear to the frame.
