Pair of Table Lamps by Bertil Brisborg for Nordiska Kompaniet, Sweden 1950s

$ 7,125
  • Description
    Bertil Brisborg was a key figure in Swedish mid 20th century lighting design, best known for his long collaboration with Nordiska Kompaniet. Working during a period when Scandinavian modernism was refining its design language, Brisborg focused on balance, proportion, and material harmony rather than visual excess. His designs reflect the NK ethos of combining refined craftsmanship with everyday usability, producing objects that feel considered, calm, and quietly elegant.

    This pair of model “32929” table lamps is a strong example of this approach. Each lamp features a slender turned wooden stem that rises cleanly from a brass base, creating a warm contrast between the polished metal and natural wood. The proportions are carefully considered, with the height of the stem balanced by the wide pleated fabric shade that softens the light and gives the lamps their characteristic silhouette. The brass details at the base and neck add a subtle sense of weight and finish, while the pleated shades diffuse the light evenly, creating a warm and inviting glow. The overall form feels restrained but not austere, with enough detail to hold attention without overpowering a space. These lamps work just as well placed symmetrically on bedside tables as they do anchoring a sideboard or console.

    Timeless and versatile, this pair embodies the lasting appeal of Swedish modern lighting. Their combination of natural materials, thoughtful proportions, and soft illumination makes them easy to be placed in a wide range of interiors. Whether used in a mid century setting or a more contemporary space, they bring warmth, balance, and a sense of quiet refinement that continues to define the best of Scandinavian design.
