Pair of Early 20th-Century Black-Painted Chests with Carved Detail
-
Description
This striking pair of black-painted chests dates to the early 20th century and reflects a refined neoclassical influence with strong architectural presence. Each chest opens with three graduated drawers, fitted with original round brass pulls and central escutcheons. The drawer fronts are framed with molded borders, and the upper edge is finished with a continuous Greek key–style carved frieze, adding depth and rhythm to the design. The black-painted surface has developed a rich, layered patina over time, with subtle wear and highlights that emphasize the carved details rather than obscure them. Both chests stand on tapered, faceted feet, giving the pieces a grounded yet elegant stance. Balanced in proportion and closely matched, they work beautifully as bedside chests, small commodes, or flanking pieces in a living space. A handsome and versatile pair with strong decorative impact and timeless character.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
