Description
This fine Swedish three-part bureau, dating to circa 1790, is an elegant example of late 18th-century Scandinavian case furniture. The piece is distinguished by its architectural form and delicate carved detailing, reflecting the Gustavian emphasis on classical balance and restraint.
The upper section features paneled doors framed by marble-painted columns, a decorative technique popular in Swedish furniture of the period, lending visual depth and refinement. Below, the slant-front writing surface opens to reveal a functional desk area, while the lower section offers multiple drawers fitted with original hardware, providing ample storage.
Finished in a light painted surface with subtle patina, the bureau displays gentle wear and tonal variation consistent with age, enhancing its authenticity. Carefully proportioned and visually cohesive, the three-part construction allows the piece to retain both presence and elegance. Crafted in Sweden during the 18th century, this bureau is well suited for use in a study, bedroom, or living space, offering both decorative impact and practical function.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
