Description
Antique Chippendale style bookcase cabinet on stand, made in England in the early to mid-19th century and finely crafted in solid mahogany. The piece is constructed in two parts, consisting of an upper display bookcase and a lower stand, following the traditional English cabinet form with refined proportions and decorative carved details typical of the Chippendale revival style of the period.
The upper section features two wood-framed glass panel doors opening to an interior fitted with shelving and lined with gray velvet upholstery, giving the cabinet an elegant presentation suitable for books or decorative objects. The façade is enriched with carved fretwork details, adding depth and character while reflecting the influence of 18th-century Chippendale designs that remained popular in 19th-century English furniture.
The lower stand is supported by tapered legs ending in carved ball-and-claw feet, providing both stability and a strong decorative presence. The proportions are slender and elevated, giving the cabinet a light architectural appearance while maintaining the solid construction associated with fine English craftsmanship of the 19th century.
This versatile antique cabinet can be used as a bookcase, display cabinet, or vitrine, and works well in both traditional and transitional interiors. The piece measures approximately 75 inches high, 46 inches wide, and 13.5 inches deep, making it an elegant size for a library, living room, or study. Overall in good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. -
