This grand-scale "A-frame" cupboard features an architectural, sloping silhouette originally engineered for the high-ceilinged reception compounds of affluent northern estates. The double doors are beautifully divided into recessed panels showcasing exemplary, deeply hand-carved relief work. The lower and upper registers depict traditional gongshi (scholars' rocks), blooming peonies, and chrysanthemums—symbols of wealth, nobility, and longevity. The carvings retain their original, beautifully oxidized gold-leaf highlights over a deep vermilion red lacquer ground. The cabinet opens to reveal a remarkably intact, fully original interior architecture. It includes its original central removable structural stile, a fixed shelf, and two integrated drawers with original brass pull rings. The inner door panels display traditional wooden butterfly joints used to stabilize the wide planks. The exterior back panels show authentic paneled construction protected by a historic dark lacquer wash, confirming its untouched period integrity.
