Description
This Tiffany & Co. diamond and ruby snake barrette mounted in platinum and gold was created in the Edwardian era. The undulating, arched shape designed as two snakes with ruby eyes pursuing each other's tails is set throughout with old European and transitional-cut diamonds, with a broad, optimally flexible gold clip closure on the reverse, mounted in platinum-topped gold. Rarely surviving from a period of bygone glamor, yet a thoroughly modern way to wear diamonds in the hair, this elegant Tiffany jewel is a timeless classic.
Dimensions: 3.00" length.
Materials: 66 transitional and old European-cut diamonds (approximate total weight 2.40 carats, VS clarity and G-H-i color grade); 4 round-cut rubies (approximate total weight 0.04 carat; Platinum-topped 18K Gold
Gram Weight: 14.20
Signed: Tiffany & Co.
Hair ornaments for men and women have an important place in the long history of jeweled adornments in Asia and Europe, but in the 20th century these traditions faltered, perhaps with the fall of monarchies and their crowned heads. More recently, in 2026, ornamenting the hair has attracted renewed interest among jewelry designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Jessica McCormick, and Boucheron. They have created versatile hair jewels including headbands, combs, barrettes, pins and clips for their high jewelry collections. -
