Description
This charming antique Austrian porcelain sculpture was made in Vienna in the mid to late 19th century and beautifully captures a tender and intimate moment between a young girl and her beloved small dog. The finely modeled figure depicts the girl standing gracefully beside a naturalistic tree trunk, gently cradling the dog in her arms and holding it affectionately close to her neck.
The young girl is dressed in an elegant off-white gown decorated with delicate small gilt floral motifs, adding a subtle touch of refinement and contrast to the composition. A soft pink shawl is wrapped gracefully around her shoulders and upper body, introducing a gentle accent of color. Her long, flowing dress and bare feet are carefully rendered, contributing to the charming, almost pastoral character of the sculpture. The small dog, painted in warm brown and white tones, is positioned affectionately in her arms, with its head resting near her shoulder. The figure is set against a beautifully modeled tree trunk with muted green and brown coloration, creating a naturalistic setting and providing a substantial base for the composition. The combination of the delicately painted figure, gilt floral details, soft pastel colors, and expressive modeling reflects the refined craftsmanship and romantic figural tradition associated with Austrian porcelain of the period.
The sculpture has a graceful vertical form and would make an appealing decorative addition to a collection of European porcelain, antique figural sculpture, or Viennese decorative arts. It stands approximately 12 3/4 inches tall and measures approximately 5.5 inches in diameter at the base. The sculpture is in great antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. -
