Description
A beautiful “Duetto” ceramic wall plate by Birger Kaipiainen for Arabia, featuring two large flowers surrounded by clocks and bees. Black and gold beading, iridescent glaze dots and finely worked details give the surface depth and texture, reflecting Kaipiainen’s distinctive approach to decorative ceramics. Ceramic beads became a defining feature of his work during the 1960s, bringing an increasingly sculptural quality to his richly ornamented surfaces.
Produced in a limited edition of 300 pieces, this example is numbered 68/300. It bears the marking “Arabia Art Made in Finland” and Birger Kaipiainen’s signature. The plate is in good condition, with its wall-mounting wire attached. A striking decorative piece, it works equally well as a focal point on its own or within a collection of ceramic wall art.
Birger Kaipiainen (1915–1988) was one of Finland’s most celebrated ceramic artists. During his long career at Arabia, he developed a distinctive world of flowers, birds, fruits and butterflies, expressed through rich colours, lustrous glazes and intricate beading. His work combines decorative exuberance with a dreamlike, often surreal imagination. - More Information
