Wiener Werkstätte

Austrian, 1903
Wiener Werkstätte was a Viennese design collective founded in 1903 by Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann and Austrian artist Koloman Moser. The collective was dedicated to the production of high-quality, handmade objects in a range of media, including furniture, textiles, metalwork, ceramics, and jewelry.

The Wiener Werkstätte was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement in England, as well as the Art Nouveau and Secessionist movements in Austria. The collective's designs were characterized by their clean lines, simple forms, and use of high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

The Wiener Werkstätte produced a wide range of objects, from furniture and household items to jewelry and clothing. Many of the collective's designs were inspired by the natural world, with motifs such as flowers and leaves appearing frequently in their work.

The Wiener Werkstätte had a significant impact on the development of modern design in the 20th century. Its members included some of the most important artists and designers of the time, including Hoffmann, Moser, Gustav Klimt, and Oskar Kokoschka. The collective's legacy continues to influence designers and artists around the world to this day.
