Carl Malmsten

Carl Malmsten (1888-1972) was a Swedish furniture designer and educator who played a key role in shaping Swedish furniture design during the 20th century. He founded his own design studio in 1919 and worked on a wide range of furniture projects, including chairs, tables, cabinets, and sofas, often incorporating traditional Swedish craftsmanship techniques into his designs. Malmsten was also involved in teaching and founded the Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies program in 1945, which is still active today as part of Linköping University. He received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Lunning Prize in 1954 and the Prince Eugen Medal in 1962.
