Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011) was an Italian ceramic artist known for his innovative designs and technical mastery. He was born in Florence and studied at the Istituto d'Arte della Seta, a school for textile and ceramic design.
Fantoni's work is characterized by its bold forms, abstract motifs, and use of color and texture. He was known for his experimentation with different techniques, including glaze application, firing methods, and sculptural forms. His pieces often featured intricate surface decorations, such as sgraffito or incised designs, which helped to give his work a distinctive, tactile quality.
Fantoni's ceramics were highly regarded during his lifetime, and his work was exhibited widely in Italy and abroad. He also collaborated with a number of other artists and designers, including the architect Gio Ponti and the artist Fausto Melotti.
