American
American furniture company Herman Miller was founded in 1905 under the name Star Furniture Co.. In 1919, the company was renamed Michigan Star Funiture Company by then changed to Herman Miller Furniture Company in 1923. By the middle of the century, the Herman Miller brand had become synonymous with “modern” furniture. Led by legendary designers George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, the company produced pieces that would become classics of industrial modern design. In July 2021, the company was rebranded as MillerKnoll and in addition to owning Herman Miller and Knoll, the company owns Design Within Reach, Colebrook Bosson Saunders, Dates Weiser, Edelman Leather, Holly Hunt, Hay, Maharam, and Muuto. Vintage Herman Miller furniture remains popular worldwide today.
