Description
Dimensions: 20 ⅜” H x 42 ½” W x 18” D
A French, solid oak coffer from the 1800s or earlier, this heavy storage trunk has a paneled exterior counterbalanced with stylized foliate motifs across the frieze and apron which adds further depth to the 19th century antique. On the lid is a low-relief cartouche shaped as a diamond that has been carved in a floral theme to correspond with the imagery on the front, opening on forged iron hinges to a deep and wide storage compartment (fitted with a small candle box on the right). Versatile for an entryway, hall, or mudroom; one could even use it as a traditional “footlocker” placed at the end of a bed. There is an iron escutcheon and latch mounted on the frieze however no key is present. This cherished antique has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain it for future generations. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Please view the detailed image gallery for the current condition and message us with any questions. -
