Description
These two life-size bronze heads possess a fantastic patina and are mounted on two granite steles, 114 cm and 109 cm high. Both the sculptures and the steles are in undamaged condition. The busts depict two male heads, and their hairstyles may suggest the Bauhaus period. This period is further supported by a photo album, presumably belonging to the artist, which was acquired with the two busts.
The photo album contains several original photographs from the years 1925 to 1928 taken in the studio of the Academy of Fine Arts, with several references to the sculptor Georg Kolbe and the location identified as a master student's studio. One of the photographs was titled "Probationary Period with Prof. Georg Kolbe" by the album's original owner. Georg Kolbe was one of the most important and successful German sculptors of the early 20th century.
This suggests that the creator of these busts was a master pupil of Georg Kolbe.
The brown/grey granite steles measure 16 x 16 cm.
The heads are approximately 30 cm high and 25 cm wide. -
