Description
A large modernistic abstract sculpture by prominent Finnish artist Raimo Utriainen made in 1973. The slated aluminium sculpture stands on an acrylic base and is signed and dated by artist. The sculpture was designed and made one year before he finished one of his most famous works that stands on the Helsinki shore called Vooki and designed in 1974. See attached photo.
The sculpture is in good condition.
Raimo Utriainen (1927-1994) was a prominent Finnish visual artist, best known for his contributions to modernist sculpture. Born in Kuopio, Finland, Utriainen initially studied mathematics and later architecture before ultimately focusing on art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki.
His work is characterized by the use of industrial materials like steel and aluminum, and he is recognized for his large-scale public sculptures that often incorporate mathematical and kinetic elements. Utriainen's sculptures are known for their precision and simplicity, often evoking a sense of movement and light.
Some of his notable works include the above mentioned Vooki in addition to Emil Aaltonen Memorial in Tampere and the Esirippu (Front Curtain), a modernist personal memorial for actress Ida Aalberg.
He also had significant solo exhibitions in Finland and Japan, and his works are part of permanent collections in various art museums, including the Ateneum in Helsinki.
In 1993, Utriainen established an art foundation to support young sculptors, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire future generations. -
