Description
A refined mid-century serving tray designed by Kaija Aarikka and produced by Aarikka Finland. The tray combines warm teak with a surrounding brass gallery, creating a simple yet elegant composition typical of Finnish modern design of the period. The contrast between the natural wood and the softly aged brass gives the piece a quiet sophistication while also making it highly functional.
The tray is solidly constructed and feels substantial in hand. Its low profile and clean geometry allow it to function equally well as a serving tray or as a decorative object for organizing items on a coffee table, desk, or bar. The raised brass edge provides both visual framing and practical containment when carrying glasses or small objects.
This particular example carries an additional layer of historical interest. It was originally presented as a corporate gift and still bears the logo of Yhtyneet Paperitehtaat, one of Finland’s largest paper manufacturers during the twentieth century and a major industrial force in the country’s economic history. Such corporate presentation pieces were common gifts among Finnish companies and often featured well-designed domestic objects from respected makers.
The tray is stamped Aarikka Finland on the underside, confirming its production by the well-known Finnish company founded by Kaija Aarikka. Aarikka became widely recognized for its distinctive wooden objects and accessories, many of which embodied the playful yet restrained character of Finnish design.
A handsome and versatile piece that works equally well for serving or as a sculptural accent in an interior, bringing together Finnish craftsmanship, mid-century materials, and a subtle connection to the country’s industrial history. -
