Description
An exceptional 1950s Mexican Modern three-piece tea service handcrafted by the renowned Los Castillo workshop in Taxco, Mexico. Executed in warm polished brass with striking natural stone inlaid handles in rich blue and green tones, the set includes a lidded teapot, matching creamer, and sugar bowl, showcasing the sculptural elegance and refined craftsmanship that define mid-century Mexican design.
Designed during the height of Mexico's modernist decorative arts movement, this tea service embodies the organic forms and sophisticated proportions for which Los Castillo became internationally recognized. While the workshop achieved worldwide acclaim for its sterling silver creations, its brass and mixed-metal designs are equally admired for their artistry and increasingly sought after by collectors of Mexican Modernism.
Founded by Antonio Castillo after his influential work alongside William Spratling, Los Castillo helped establish Taxco as the world's premier center of twentieth-century silversmithing. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the workshop became synonymous with innovative craftsmanship, blending traditional Mexican metalworking techniques with Scandinavian and Modernist influences. Their work remains represented in important private collections and museums and continues to define the golden age of Mexican decorative arts.
The rounded vessel forms are beautifully complemented by distinctive natural stone inlaid handles, creating a sophisticated contrast between the warm brass and cool mineral tones. Equally suited for entertaining or display, this elegant service makes a striking statement in Mid-Century Modern, Mexican Modern, Hollywood Regency, Contemporary, and Organic Modern interiors.
