Zeppelin Form German Cocktail Shaker Traveling Bar, Circa 1928

This remarkable Zeppelin-form German cocktail shaker is one of the most imaginative barware designs to emerge from the late 1920s. Produced by J.A. Henckels and marked DGRM, it captures the fascination with aviation and the streamlined forms that helped define the era.

The entire composition fits neatly together into a sleek Zeppelin-shaped vessel, chrome-plated over brass, nine inches tall, and beautifully detailed from nose to tail fins. These early traveling bars were produced in very small numbers and have become highly sought after by collectors of Art Deco barware for their sculptural presence and complete functionality.

Inside this original shaker is the full configuration of parts that separate and nest perfectly. Included are four graduated cups, a strainer with a cap, a decanter with a cover, a funnel with a combined stopper and corkscrew, and a holder designed for a bar spoon or to keep it all together. This example has all pieces present and displays a wonderful period interior with the expected gilt wash inside the shaker body. Few surviving Zeppelin Form sets remain intact, making this an important and rare object for anyone collecting serious Art Deco barware, German design, or early aviation-inspired metalwork of the late 1920s.
