Description
A fine pair of Viennese Secession Art Nouveau relief panels by Georg Klimt (1867–1931), Vienna, dated around 1900. Depicting two women gazing at each other in the motif “Demeter,” executed in copper, finely chased and chiselled, in very good original condition with a beautiful patina.
Georg Klimt, the youngest brother of Gustav Klimt, was renowned for his exceptional talent and outstanding metalwork, which clearly shows influences of the Viennese Secession and the Glasgow School. Alongside a number of everyday objects, he primarily created hand-crafted metal reliefs. These served both as independent works of art and as decorative elements for furniture. Many of the reliefs produced by Georg Klimt were commissioned pieces intended for decorative panels used by first-class Viennese cabinetmakers such as Michael Niedermoser and August Ungethüm to embellish their furniture.
Professionally and elegantly framed, these reliefs can fully reveal their artistic impact.
