Description
Grisalla Nude of an Athlete, oil on canvas 19th century. XIX
An impressive work that presents a nude male figure with a sculptural treatment on a deep black background. It represents a sculpture of a nude Hercules, holding his characteristic attribute, the mace. In the other hand you can see the apple of the Hesperides, from one of his famous 12 labours. The anatomical details stand out for their realism and strength, creating a dramatic contrast that highlights the shape and volume of the robust body of the classical hero. Executed in oil on canvas, it is in perfect condition with beautiful neutral tones, typical of the grisailles of the 18th century.
