Angelo Lelii "Siluro" floor lamp by Arredoluce, Italy, 1950s
-
Description
A stunning floor lamp, model 16628 "Siluro", crafted from painted metal, brass, and marble, featuring a dual-tone diffuser in white and yellow plastic. Designed by Angelo Lelli and produced by Arredoluce in the 1950s.
A metal cage surrounds the two-tone shade, capturing the power of light within the designer’s vision. This interplay of delicate forms enclosed within more assertive structures is a signature aesthetic of many lighting pieces by Angelo Lelli. The metal encases the light source, almost emphasizing its ephemeral and intangible nature. Yet, this floor lamp is not without a touch of irony in its design—it could be a spacecraft, reminiscent of the pop-infused universe of rockets and planets promoted by mid-century cinema and graphic art as symbols of modernity.
Produced by Arredoluce, the company founded by Angelo Lelli himself, the lamp shares with other catalog pieces the same refined craftsmanship and high-quality materials. The base is made of white marble, while polished brass accents highlight sections of the structure. The distinctive diffuser appears almost suspended, hovering in midair. The era’s aesthetic sensibility and relentless pursuit of innovation are evident in the choice of synthetic materials for the two contrasting cones that form the shade.
Plastic, spacecraft, and planets—an unmistakable expression of 1950s optimism and futuristic vision.
The lamp is in excellent overall condition and remains entirely original.
