Description
Impressive pair of ceramic table lamps, made by Arabia in Mid-20th Century Finland. The glaze is fantastic - it is a rosy pink color with a beautifully crackled gloss finish (quite similar to Farrow & Ball's Crimson Red). These lamps stand tall, with the shade they are nearly 27" H. The shades are not original but are quite nice, they are laminated with a warm grey silk. It is very rare to find a matching pair of these vintage lamps, and of course as they are hand made it's not a perfect match - the glaze on has a bit more crackle than the other. Arabia made the best stuff, very high quality. Brass fittings, medium base bulb socket. Custom shipping options available upon request.
Shade: 10-1/2" at top, 13-1/2" at base with an 8-5/8" drop. Lamp base: 5-1/4" diameter x 17" H to fittings, 19-3/4" to top of brass fitting. Overall 26-3/4" H.
Priced as a pair.
Founded in 1873, Arabia emerged as Finland—then part of the Russian Empire—began developing its own manufacturing identity, meeting a growing demand for refined tableware. In the post-war years, as the country rebuilt, Arabia came to define the modern Finnish home: unfussy, resilient, and quietly well designed. The company became a crucible for Nordic design, bringing together figures like Kaj Franck, whose pared-back functionalism still feels current; Ulla Procopé, who introduced the earthy, ever-relevant Ruska; and Birger Kaipiainen, whose richly decorative pieces remain among the most collectible today. These weren’t just beautiful objects—they reframed the everyday, collapsing the divide between utility and aesthetics. By the 1960s and ’70s, Arabia was simply part of life: in cafés, schools, and private homes. Owning a set became a rite of passage - designs practical enough for daily use, yet enduring enough to last a lifetime. -
