Description
ASEA (before 1977 Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget), was a Swedish electrotechnical company headquartered in Västerås. It was founded in 1883 and was until 1987 the city's largest industrial company. The historic company has had a decisive impact on how the Swedish electrotechnical industry has developed, but also on design history. Their technical prowess can be also observed in pieces such as this “E1342” table lamp.
This exquisite table lamp from ASEA Belysning captures the essence of iconic Scandinavian design. The lamp features a slender body constructed from golden brass, its polished surface radiating a warm, inviting glow, while at the same time offering a unique charm through its elegant patina. The minimalist design highlights the functionality of the mid-century era. There is an element of balance present in the design thanks to the tripod base, it forms of a sturdy foundation, as well as visual symmetry. This tripod element showcases the mix between form and function, displaying the modernist approach that was iconic to Scandinavian design ethos of the time. The off-white fabric shade ties the piece together, by adding a harmonious contrast to the lamp's body. On a textural level, the grain and colour of the fabric give an organic feel to an otherwise polished, shiny piece, while the size of the empire shade stands out next to the slim body of the table lamp.
ASEA Belysning, the manufacturer of this unique “E1342” floor lamp, has a rich heritage rooted in lighting innovation through their quality craftsmanship and avant-garde design principles. This lamp embodies the brand’s commitment to leaving their mark in the history of lighting design. The combination of materials and uncomplicated design make this piece the perfect example of mid-century modern design.
