Description
Between the 1920s and 1950s, Böhlmarks was a significant player in the Swedish design movement. It was Harald Notini that drove the company forward, producing what were considered pioneering and distinctive luminaires for the time.
Like most light fixtures of the period, the design of these table lamps assumes a more minimalist look, Notini prized the marriage of form and function, with a poise that is hard to force or imitate. The simple bodies exude sophistication through their sleekness. Both the stem and the round base are crafted from brass, a quintessentially mid-century modern material. The warm, golden hue of the metal is complemented by a minimalist design, allowing the lamps to seamlessly integrate into a variety of interior styles. Not only is this pair versatile, but the choice of material ensures they will last for generations to come, while a beautiful vintage patina develops over time. The brass’s inviting glow also contrasts tastefully with the white lampshades with a black trim. The light, when diffused through the fabric shades, creates a homely and comforting ambiance. The precise construction of this pair ensures that every detail was carefully considered, from the proportions to the mix of materials, creating balance that shows Notini’s keen eye.
The design of this pair has great proportions, and when lit, the lamps create an exceptionally atmospheric light, giving the brass a warm colour as well. Table lamps such as these are timeless examples of how simplicity, combined with thoughtful craftsmanship, can result in lighting fixtures that transcend their utilitarian purpose, becoming works of art in their own right. Today we consider the mid-century era a golden age for Swedish design and craftsmanship. During these decades, some of the country's most significant luminaires were designed and produced at Böhlmarks.
