Carlo Nason Floorlamp "LT 379" for Mazzega in Cristal and Tobacco, Italy 1970s

$ 17,790
  • Description
    A sculptural presence with a warm atmospheric glow, the LT 379 floor lamp by Carlo Nason for Mazzega reflects the experimental spirit of Murano glass design from the 1970s. Combining hand-formed crystal glass with a refined architectural structure, this model captures the balance between craftsmanship and modern Italian lighting.

    Design
    Born into a Murano glassmaking family, Carlo Nason chose a more progressive path than the decorative tradition associated with earlier Venetian production. Rather than focusing on ornament, he became known for geometric forms, layered translucency and innovative lighting concepts. Throughout his career, Nason collaborated with several important manufacturers including I TRE, Kalmar, Vistosi and Murano Due, though his partnership with Mazzega remains among his most recognised achievements. Together with Gianni Mazzega, he developed a series of lighting designs that defined the company’s identity during the 1970s and 1980s. His work from this period introduced a more sculptural and experimental language to Murano glass lighting.

    The LT 379 consists of individually formed ghiaccio glass panels mounted around a metal structure. These textured crystal glass elements imitate the appearance of melting ice, creating a layered surface that interacts beautifully with light. Alternating white and tobacco-coloured tones add depth and contrast to the composition, giving the lamp a strong architectural rhythm without losing its softness.

    When illuminated, the textured glass diffuses a warm golden light across the surrounding space. Subtle irregularities within the hand-moulded panels enhance the organic quality of the piece and underline the artisanal nature of its production. The combination of sculptural glass and restrained metal detailing reflects the experimental aesthetic that characterised Mazzega’s most progressive designs during this period.

    A refined example of Italian Murano lighting that functions equally as an ambient light source and a sculptural object.

    ‍Condition
    The floor lamp remains in very good condition with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period. The glass elements are well preserved and the structure remains stable. This model is featured in Mazzega catalogue no. 9.
