Carlo Nason Large LP 242 Wall Lights in Opaline (Set of 3) for Mazzega, Italy
-
Description
Light and glass flow seamlessly together in this set of three LP 242 wall lights, designed by Carlo Nason for Mazzega in the 1970s. Known for his poetic handling of Murano glass, Nason created pieces that balance sculptural elegance with functional clarity.
Design
Each wall light features a cascade of hand-blown glass elements in a soft opaline tone with hints of pale blue, subtly shimmering with iridescence. The elongated drops are slightly rounded at the base, resembling frozen icicles or melting candlewax, an effect enhanced when illuminated. This organic rhythm is punctuated by the repetition of vertical elements, lending a measured structure to the otherwise flowing form. When lit, the pieces emit a warm, gentle glow that diffuses beautifully through the textured glass, while the soft colour gradient adds a painterly depth.
The LP 242 model exemplifies Mazzega’s technical ingenuity in glass fusion, where individual elements are assembled around a concealed metal frame. Carlo Nason, born into a Murano glassmaking dynasty, often challenged tradition by merging clean geometry with fluid artistry.
This ensemble of three creates a harmonious composition on the wall;ideal for hallways, bedrooms or intimate corners where ambient lighting is preferred.
Condition
The condition of these lights is very good. All glass elements are intact and the electrical components are fully functional. Minor signs of age are visible upon close inspection but do not distract from the overall presence.
These lamps are also described in the book; Carlo Nason Glass Designer - Handle with Care, on page 105 -
