Description
A quiet interplay of light and glass defines this pair, where form is guided by material rather than excess. These lamps reflect a period in Italian design where experimentation with Murano techniques met a more restrained, modern language.
Design
The composition centres on hand-formed Murano glass panels arranged in a rhythmic, almost petal-like structure. Each element rises from a compact brass base, gently patinated and slightly elevated, allowing the glass to appear as if unfolding upward. A single rod anchors the composition, holding the panels with a discreet screw detail that remains visible and honest. The glass shifts in tone from a tobacco hue at the base to a green-tinged transparency above, creating a natural transition where the light source sits. Once illuminated, the surface reveals a textured interior with subtle inclusions, casting warm reflections in amber and soft green. Carlo Nason, working closely with Mazzega during the 1960s and 1970s, often pursued this balance between organic shaping and industrial clarity, favouring modular thinking while allowing the material to retain its expressive quality.
A considered design that sits comfortably on a side table or console, offering both atmosphere and sculptural presence without dominating its setting.
Condition
The condition remains very good, with light wear to the brass consistent with age. The glass panels are intact, showing minor irregularities inherent to the production process. -
