Gunilla Jung (b. 1905 d. 1939): Best known for her groundbreaking lighting, Jung designed the fixtures for Helsinki’s Savoy Theatre back in 1937. She loved mixing materials—metal, glass, hardwood, rattan, even reed—giving her work a fresh, modern feel that was heavily influenced by the Bauhaus. Working with Finnish lighting company Orno, she created many standout pieces for public spaces, including some of Helsinki’s most famous restaurants. Her untimely death in 1939 makes her pieces exceedingly rare and collectible. -
