Ignazio Gardella 'LT3' Floor Lamp in Brass and Marble, Azucena, Italy, 1950s

This rare floor lamp was designed by Ignazio Gardella and produced by Azucena in Italy in the 1950s. The model, known as the LT3 (often referred to as Alzabile, meaning “liftable” or “adjustable”), is a classic example of Gardella’s restrained and functional modernism.

The lamp’s telescopic brass stem and articulated shade allow it to function as either a focused reading lamp or a taller uplight, depending on the position. A heavy, turned black marble base anchors the piece and gives it an elegant, sculptural presence. The original mid-century mechanism allows for height variation—from approximately 127 cm (50 in.) in the lowest position to 177 cm (70 in.) at full extension—and the shade itself can also be adjusted into multiple positions.

The lamp is in good, original condition. The brass has developed a naturally beautiful patina over time. It has been rewired and is currently fitted with a 220 V European plug and a foot switch.
